Bad English 於 1989 年所發佈的歌曲，作為這個「超級樂團（Supergroup）」同名出道專輯中的第二支單曲，
直接一鼓作氣衝上了 Billboard Hot 100 的冠軍寶座。
說到 Bad English，老樂迷肯定會起雞皮疙瘩，
這團體成員簡直是夢幻聯隊，
由 Journey（旅程合唱團）的靈魂人物
Neal Schon、Jonathan Cain，
加上 The Babys 的主唱 John Waite 組成。
那種 80 年代末期特有的「競技場搖滾（Arena Rock）」氣勢，
搭配 John Waite 那種帶點沙啞、充滿磁性的嗓音，
簡直是把柔情與力量融合到了最高境界。
這首歌是由大名鼎鼎的「情歌寫手女王」Diane Warren 操刀。

這首〈When I See You Smile〉抓住了那個年代最純粹的浪漫：

媒體評價這首歌是「權力抒情曲（Power Ballad）的教科書」，
沒有那種刻意煽情的狗血，
只有一種成熟男人在累了一整天後，對伴侶最真摯的告白。
這首歌當時在台灣的廣播電台也是播到爛掉，
是無數大叔當年追女孩、
或是剛學吉他時必練的「把妹神曲」。

Diane Warren 的「神曲法則」：
Diane Warren 非常擅長處理那種
「世界末日 vs. 真愛救贖」的強烈對比。
在這首歌裡，「世界壓垮（closing in）」與
「陽光穿透雨水（shining through the rain）」的意象，
是 80 年代抒情搖滾最經典的對仗手法。
超級樂團的化學反應：
如果你覺得這首歌的旋律很有 Journey 的味道，
那是因為鍵盤手 Jonathan Cain 正是 Journey 的核心創作者。
他在這首歌裡加入的鋼琴點綴，
讓整首搖滾樂多了一份細膩的情感。
"Closin' in on me"：這是一個很道地的英文慣用語，
