Macklemore（本名 Ben Haggerty）曾提到，

他找來了當時還在咖啡店打工的創作女歌手 Mary Lambert，

"I kept my room straight"
這是一個非常巧妙的文字遊戲。
在英文中 straight 除了形容房間「整齊」，
也是「異性戀」的代稱。
Macklemore 藉此諷刺社會對小男孩的刻板印象：
如果你愛乾淨、會畫畫、行為舉止不夠「粗獷」，
大眾就會先入為主地幫你貼上標籤。
這也反映了性別教育中，「男子氣概」如何被狹隘定義的問題。

Faggot（常縮寫為 Faggot 或 Fag）是針對
男同性戀者極具侮辱性的歧視詞彙。
Macklemore 直接點出嘻哈文化與網路社群中的惡習：

是用宗教最溫暖的教義來反擊那些利用宗教宣揚仇恨的人，
呼應了歌名——
