Rage Against the Machine (RATM) 於 1992年
所發佈的同名專輯《Rage Against the Machine》中，
祭出了這首足以載入史冊的抗爭神曲〈Killing In The Name〉。
這首歌不只是重金屬與嘻哈結合的典範，
更是對當時美國社會體制最憤怒的控訴。
創作背景深植於 1991 年發生的
「羅德尼·金（Rodney King）事件」——
當時四名白人警察瘋狂毆打非裔青年，
隨後的無罪判決直接導致了
1992 年震撼世界的洛杉磯大暴動。
根據 Rolling Stone 的報導，這首歌被評選為史上最偉大的 500 首歌曲之一。
吉他手 Tom Morello 那段充滿磁性且厚重的 Drop D 調弦節奏，
是他在教學生彈吉他時意外發想出來的。
而主唱 Zack de la Rocha 咆哮出的歌詞，
直接將執法人員與惡名昭彰的 3K 黨（KKK）掛鉤，
砲火猛烈到極點。
〈Killing In The Name〉最廣為人知的傳奇事蹟發生在 2009 年的英國。
當時為了反抗選秀節目《X Factor》長期壟斷聖誕節冠軍單曲的崩壞現象，
網友發起了一場大規模的數位下載運動，
硬生生讓這首發行了 17 年、
充滿髒話的抗爭歌曲衝上 Billboard 國際榜單與英國單曲榜冠軍，
成功「下架」了選秀冠軍。

Burn crosses: 這是一個極其沉重的歷史隱喻。
在美國歷史中，焚燒十字架是恐怖組織
Ku Klux Klan (3K黨) 威脅、
恐嚇非裔美國人的標誌性行動。
歌詞將執法人員（Work forces）與 3K 黨畫上等號，
